Industrial culture

We create in an environment shaped by industry, and we attribute a large part of our values and ways of life to centuries of living with industrial culture.

Instead of focusing only on industrial heritage, we emphasize the need for a broader understanding of industrial culture—both tangible and intangible practices and the spaces that shape the life of communities.

At the intersection of the social sciences, the humanities, history, and technology, we seek to understand what it means to live with industry in the 21st century.

Past, present, and future

Industrial culture is not industrial heritage—it is a way of life today that defines the future.

Values for the 21st century

The importance of work, solidarity and camaraderie, the demand for equality, sensitivity to injustice, and humour are values we want to preserve in the 21st century.

When the old meets the new

We combine past patterns, objects, and spaces with the new.

New media and technologies

New media and technology are the industry of the 21st century – so we gladly use and explore them.

We work with young people

We involve young people in our activities and listen to their views on living with industry.

Industry is sexy

We move beyond the view of industry as grey, dirty, and repulsive.

Betrib Festival

Betrib is a festival of industrial culture that, every two years, re-examines life with industry and—through music performances, exhibitions, installations, and talks—opens up reflections on industry in the 21st century. Betrib is part of the Official Programme of GO! 2025, the European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica–Gorizia.
