TAKING
HERITAGE
STEP FURTHER
Idrija Miners Houses
We explore residential heritage and traditional building techniques and pass them on to new generations through practical workshops, volunteer actions, and cultural events.
Idrija žlikrofi
We support and promote traditional Idrija žlikrofi and, through gastronomic events, raise awareness about the importance of culinary heritage for a sustainable future.
Industrial culture
We build a new perspective on industrial culture of the past, present, and future, and through a new-media festival raise awareness of the uniqueness of life shaped by industry.
Life on the periphery
We uncover stories of rural areas and (former) industrial centres, creating comfortable living conditions for young people, digital nomads, and others.

Idrija Miners Houses
We explore residential and architectural heritage and pass it on to new generations through hands-on workshops and events.

Studio
ID20 brings heritage to life through unique marketing, sustainable architecture, and events, connecting brands with people in a tailored, impactful way.

Life on the periphery
We see the periphery as a rich countryside of unique experiences, shared stories, and a creative community that connects people today.

Industrial culture
We emphasize a broader understanding of industrial culture—tangible and intangible practices and spaces that shape the life of communities.

Idrija Žlikrofi
Traditional cuisine inspires us toward sustainability: local, seasonal dishes with minimal waste shape a healthy, delicious future.
The ID20 Institute is a non-profit and non-governmental organization based in Idrija, where the world’s second-largest mercury mine once operated. Today, the town—with its rich mining heritage—is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
ID20’s mission is to preserve and develop cultural heritage, especially in peripheral and rural areas. With innovative, multi-award-winning approaches, ID20 brings elements of (social) entrepreneurship, youth work, marketing, architecture, and community building into the heritage field, thereby contributing not only to preservation but also to social and economic development based on heritage.
ID20 involves and supports heritage enthusiasts in order to bring cultural heritage closer to young people and cultural tourists, and thus encourage further development of peripheral and rural areas.
