Last week, ID20 Institute organized a study tour in Idrija for participants from the Italian region of Carnia. During the two-day event, which took place as part of the GO! Pasta project, participants learned more about the certification and production of Idrija žlikrofi, toured Idrija and visited the Idrija Mercury Mine.
Last year, a delegation from Idrija, composed of the Mayor of Idrija Municipality Tomaž Vencelj, providers and producers of Idrija Žlikrofi, and the ID20 Institute team, visited Tolmezzo and Carnia. The study tour significantly contributed to deepening contacts with local producers of cjarsons, filled pasta that is similar to Idrija Žlikrofi in both ingredients and shape.
The Mayor of Idrija Welcomed the Visitors
This time, the Italian guests returned the visit, eagerly discovering the rich flavors of Idrija dumplings. The delegation included producers and enthusiasts of cjarsons, municipal representatives, and representatives of the partner organization Comunità Montana della Carnia. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by the Mayor of Idrija, Tomaž Vencelj, who wished them many exciting culinary moments in Idrija. After the presentation of ID20's work and the history and present of the Idrija Žlikrofi, guests visited the Idrija-Cerkno Development Agency, where Polona Kavčič explained the certification process of Idrija Žlikrofi. After lunch at Gostišče Barbara, where guests could sample Idrija Žlikrofi with various sauces, they visited the production facility. They even tried preparing Idrija Žlikrofi by themselves, learning the secrets of their long preparation process.

Food Trailer Already Traveling Around
The next day, the visitors explored the Anthony’s Main Road of the Idrija Mercury Mine and toured the town center. As the group included representatives of youth organizations from the region, they also visited the Youth Center Idrija, where they were introduced to its operations and major projects. After lunch the guests headed back home.
The study tour was an important part of the GO! Pasta project, financed by the European Union from the Small Project Fund of the GO! 2025 program Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027. The project is part of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 program.
Next year, you will see the GO! Pasta logo at numerous events within the official programme of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025. Notably, the GO! Pasta food trailer will feature Idrija Žlikrofi and other related dishes at many gastronomical events.
