This November follow #ZgodbeIdrije (Stories of Idrija)

In the month of November, follow our social media channels, which will be marked by the #ZgodbeIdrije campaign. We will present stories of young and old people who see the municipality of Idrija as a creative and innovative area, with a rich cultural heritage and the potential for a rich development and creative future.

The Municipality of Idrija has been facing numerous challenges in recent years, such as youth emigration, lack of housing, and diverse employment opportunities. Among the population, discomfort is also caused by the closure of certain postal offices or bank ATMs, and occasionally there is an opinion that the region is losing the battle to larger cities. However, the numerous stories of residents who create and live in this area suggest that the area is full of creative potential.

The stories of individuals are the stories of the region.

In recent months, we have conducted numerous conversations and interviews with creative individuals in the municipality of Idrija as part of two projects, Nomadland and Common Good. At the ID20 Institute, we are thus presenting the stories of individuals who are shaping (or will shape) social life in the area of Idrija and the surrounding villages.

Although the Common Good and Nomadland projects are quite diverse in their focus, the first focuses on individuals and associations that preserve the rich cultural heritage of our area, while the second sees the countryside and the municipality of Idrija as a potential area for attracting digital nomads, they are also linked by many things. And that is stories. A place (or destination) is attractive if it offers interesting stories that include the local community, especially young people who want to develop roots in this area. This is also the common theme of our #ZgodbeIdrije campaign.

From masters to young people

In the #ZgodbeIdrije campaign, we will present both well-known and lesser-known masters who continue the rich heritage of Idrija's cultural heritage. We went to workshops, asked them why they decided to work with cultural heritage, or filmed them while they were working. We will also publish summaries of workshops that we have conducted (or will conduct) that allow masters to present their work to a wider audience.

We recently also conducted a workshop at the Šturmajce farm, which was attended by students from the Jurij Vega Gymnasium Idrija.

At the same time, we are also presenting 5 young people who see their future life in Idrija. You will get to know what they do, why they love Idrija, and to which places they would take visitors. Idrija and its surroundings offer many experiences that can contribute to the creation of spaces and activities for digital nomads or urban young people who are looking for a life in the countryside. The stories with young people are part of the Nomadland project, a wider European project where we are exploring the potentials of connecting youth work and tourism in the European countryside.
